#NAICWEEK - ALICE'S JOURNEY
Have you heard of NAIC Week? We hadn’t either, until we joined the NOMM Team! To kickstart our summer, we each participated in NAIC (No Added Ingredient Challenge) Week and we want to share our experiences with you. The purpose of NAIC Week is to learn about and empathize with the challenges consumers face when making healthy food choices and trying to find products with clean ingredients. We each spent one week being more aware of our choices and tried to choose foods and beverages without any added sugar,/processed sweeteners oils, or flavors/preservatives - just like a NOMM cookie!

ALICE’S NAIC WEEK JOURNEY
NAIC Week was an entirely new concept to me and I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it. I’ve been cooking for my family at home and I rarely looked at the labels for food products that I was using, so it was definitely strange at first. Luckily, my family and I eat pretty natural foods revolving around fresh fruits and vegetables so I didn’t need to check the majority of the ingredients I used. However, I became a lot more conscious about what I would add into my cooking. I was surprised at how many additives were in common spices and seasonings like soy sauce and different hot sauces, both of which I love using. Instead, I tried to gear more towards natural spices to flavor whatever I was cooking.
I was also surprised at what kind of food products didn’t have added sugars or preservatives. Even though things like canned salmon or nori (seaweed) seem highly processed, they usually don’t contain additives. I also found myself snacking on NOMM cookies throughout the week because I knew they didn’t have anything off-limits!
As a result of NAIC Week, I found that I didn’t need to make drastic changes to my eating habits. Instead, I developed the habit of checking labels and an awareness of what kinds of foods contained additives and found more natural alternatives. This experience led me to appreciate the time and effort some people put into their lifestyles to stay as natural and wholesome as possible.
